Brown wins third term as Cook County Circuit Court clerk

With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Democratic incumbent Dorothy Brown Tuesday appeared headed toward her third term as clerk of the circuit court of Cook County.

Issues of technology, ethics and patronage underscored the race, which pitted Brown against Republican Diane Shapiro, an investigator with the county's adult probation department, and the Green Party's Paloma Andrade, a bilingual special education teacher.

Brown received 68 percent of the vote, according to unofficial tallies. Shapiro received 27 percent and Andrade received 5 percent.
