Suspect in custody for weekend gang shooting
A 19-year-old Elgin man was behind bars Monday charged in connection with a gang-related shooting of a 20-year-old woman Friday morning.
Emmanuel Perez, of the 200 block of Douglas Ave, was arrested Saturday on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and possession of marijuana, according to Kane County court records.
The charges stem from a shooting about 1:20 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of Douglas Ave.
Police called to the scene located the victim, an Elgin resident who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, in a nearby alley.
She was taken to Sherman Hospital she remained listed critical condition on Monday, police said.
Elgin Police spokeswoman Ann Dinges described the incident as "gang-motivated" and said the department's gang unit was conducting the investigation.
On Sunday, police confirmed that a person had been arrested in connection with the case, but are not disclosing details of the arrest.
Perez remained in the Kane County jail Monday afternoon, unable to post ten percent of $502,500 bond. His next court date was set for Nov. 13 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
