Bartlett teens charged with street racing

Bartlett police charged a pair of teens Sunday, saying the 16-year-olds were racing sports cars.

Authorities said they received a report at just before midnight Saturday of two Nissan Altimas racing side by side west on Longford Road near Longford Court, Sgt. Geoffrey Pretkelis said. Police tried to stop the 2009 Altima as the car sped north on Millwood Drive, near Cherry Circle before it crashed into a mailbox, Pretkelis said. Paramedics took the male driver to a hospital with minor injuries, he added.

Police found the male driver of the 2006 Altima later at a residence on the 900 block of Sandalwood Court, Pretkelis said.

One teen was charged with street racing and cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor, police said. The other teen was charged with street racing and fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, police said. The second teen was also cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor, police said. They were released on bond and given a Dec. 11 court date in Rolling Meadows.
