Des Plaines: Avoid casino like plague
Why is Des Plaines trying to get a casino? We already have a good tax base here, right?
Well, perhaps it would be good to drain the local economy of piles of money, create some new gambling addicts, and give the police more crime and social problems to deal with.
Seriously - has any town's quality of life ever increased by adding a casino? Or even avoided decline? There are far better ways to make money from business travelers staying in the area - how about new hotels, or restaurants, or a movie complex, or an upscale mall?
Those would actually add money that would stay local. But a casino? An unwise idea, and that's saying it politely.
It's election time - let's vote out everyone who supports this nonsense, and help Des Plaines remain a decent place to live.
