Stevenson, Wolves top Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Chicago Wolves broke a 1-1 tie 69 seconds into the second period with a goal from center Grant Stevenson and went on to beat the Iowa Chops 3-1 Saturday night for a split of their weekend series.

Wolves goaltender Dan Turple turned away 20 of 21 shots in his first American Hockey League start, while Stevenson, center Riley Holzapfel and right wing Spencer Machacek each had multiple points.

The Wolves opened the scoring at 13:27 of the opening period with Holzapfel's first professional goal. The forward scored on a rebound from a blocked shot by Stevenson.

Iowa tied it with 21 seconds remaining in the first period as center Andrew Ebbett took the puck past the goal, spun around and backhanded a shot that squirted between Turple's pads and over the goal line.

Right wing Joe Motzko added an empty-net goal with nine seconds remaining in the game.
