Time for new blood in DuPage County

The Republican politicians of DuPage County, from their recent television ads and the publication of "DuPage Review", would have us believe that they are to be credited with the "quality of life" we have here. The fact is the "quality of life" we enjoy comes from "We the People," not the politicians. It is because of the Republicans, spearheaded by county board Chairman Robert Schillerstrom, that we have an oppressive new addition to our sales tax that generates $40 million in new dollars for county government. This is after a voter referendum defeated the measure by an overwhelming 77 percent voting in opposition. So Schillerstrom, the county board, and our state senators went around the public's wishes to impose this new taxation.

Be careful what you believe coming from Republican politicians. They gloat that only 2 percent of county revenue comes from property taxes. While that may be true, they reap huge revenues from the aforementioned sales tax, fees (a form of taxation) and state and federal grants. All of which come from "We the People."

The Republican forest preserve board is also putting out media ads to promote all of the wonders of their administration, done of course at taxpayer expense. All of these ads and promotional materials have been taken out to market the Republican Party in DuPage. May we never forget that for every contract, road construction, legal services, engineering, etc. let by the county board there is the potential for revenue to flow into our elected officials "campaign fund." This is one of the greatest miscarriages of ethics of our time. I say it is time for "new blood" on the DuPage County Board and in other DuPage elected offices.
