This is not the way a village is run
I have been a resident of Campton Township for over 14 years and have followed local issues since moving into the area. Lately, I do not like what I have seen. My concerns over this municipal corporation's formation are:
• Village incorporators ignore resident requests to not be a part of the original incorporation.
• President Smith stated prior to the vote to incorporate that residents can get out of the village, then the village fights, at my count, 23 of the 26 disconnections. Later recants and states she was misquoted, but I heard it myself.
• Thousands try to disconnect following state statutes and yet the village files suit to keep them in the village against their will. This is done at the combined cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars in charges to these residents.
• Formation of the village was to give residents a voice in local government, but the village fights repeatedly to suppress a petition brought forth by the residents for a vote.
• Village passes ordinances that illegally strips the duties away from an elected official and repeals ordinances or be subject to action by the state's attorney.
• Village supports a lawsuit against a village resident and Kane County to suppress a vote by its residents.
• Village Board gives their voting rights to village president and attorney on legal proceedings, relinquishing their duties as an elected official and thereby not representing the electorate because they were too busy to meet on every issue.
To me this is not self-determination unless you are locked in step with village policy.
Vote yes Nov. 4 to dissolve the village of Campton Hills.
