Workplace accident kills worker at power plant

MARION _ Federal workplace safety officials are investigating the death of a contract worker at a southern Illinois power plant.

Scheck Industrial Corp. President Randy Peach says Mike Morgan died Friday at a Southern Illinois Power Cooperative job site in Marion. Peach says Morgan slipped and became pinned between a rotating, 80-ton heater and stationary equipment.

Peach says plant emergency response teams responded within minutes and tried to revive Morgan, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the coroner.

Peach says Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials are investigating, along with Scheck representatives.

Company President and CEO Richard Scheck says Morgan's death is a "terrible tragedy."
