Teen charged in Elgin shooting
An Elgin juvenile has been charged as an adult in connection with a May gang shooting, authorities announced Friday.
Victor N. Rivera, 16, of the 100 block of Ann Street, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony punishable by 4 to 15 years in prison.
Rivera is accused of firing several shots at two rival gang members who were sitting on a porch on the 300 block of North Street. No one was hurt.
Rivera was taken into custody about three weeks after the May 8 shooting. On Wednesday, Associate Judge M. Karen Simpson granted a motion by the Kane County State's Attorney's Office to transfer the juvenile to adult court. He was charged Thursday.
