Lake Co. man denies rape, battery
A Round Lake Park man denied Friday that he beat and sexually assaulted a woman in his home.
Gil Torres-Gutierrez, 41, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of criminal sexual assault and domestic battery.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Bolling Haxall said Torres-Guiterrez, of 403 N. Kenwood Drive, attacked the woman Sept. 27. Haxall said Torres-Guiterrez and the woman had been to a party the previous night and returned to his home about 9 a.m.
An argument began, and Torres-Gutierrez struck the woman several times in the face, raped her and dragged her back inside the house after she ran out, Haxall said.
She was able to call police only after Torres-Gutierrez fell asleep later in the day.
Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak scheduled a trial of the case for Jan. 5 and ordered Torres-Gutierrez, who is held on $150,000 bond, to appear in court Dec. 12.
