Crash in Huntley kills 1, closes Route 47

A three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Huntley left one woman dead and sent two others to area hospitals.

Route 47 at the Jane Addams Tollway was closed until at least 8:30 p.m. Friday evening after the 1:20 p.m. crash.

The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of Route 47, police said, and involved an Illinois Department of Transportation dump truck, a blue Ford F-150 and a trailer truck hauling corn.

The female passenger in the Ford F150 pickup died when the pickup she was in was crushed between the trailer truck and the IDOT vehicle.

The man driving the pickup was flown to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford and a small child was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said. Updates on their conditions were not available Friday night.

Police said the IDOT truck was occupied by two workers, John Manella of Geneva and Joseph Monachello of Kirkland. It was stopped in traffic on the bridge over I-90; the Ford 150 was stopped behind it.

The truck, with driver Jeffrey Repec of Spring Grove, was traveling south on Route 47 when it struck the back of the pickup and pushed it into the IDOT vehicle. The pickup was crushed between the two larger vehicles.

The two IDOT workers and the driver of the truck were uninjured.

Police said they are not releasing the names of the victims in the pickup until their family is notified.

No charges have been filed Friday night.

Police and firefighters from Huntley and Elgin, as well as state police, responded to the scene with several area fire departments assisting.
