Wicinski honored as Bears' final Coach of the Week

Geneva coach Rob Wicinski has been named the Chicago Bears High School "Coach of the Week" for Week 9.

Last Friday, Geneva completed its second straight 9-0 regular season and won its fifth consecutive conference title by beating rival Batavia 47-14. Geneva is now 32-3 the last three seasons.

In honor of Wicinski, $1,500 will be donated to Geneva's football program. Wicinski will be invited to the Bears-Jaguars game on Sun., Dec. 7, and will be recognized during an on-field ceremony that day. He will also receive a framed certificate and will have the opportunity to attend a Bears practice and "chalk-talk" with Bears coach Lovie Smith and other 2008 "Coach of the Week" honorees.

The Chicago Bears "Coach of the Week" program entered its 13th season this year. The program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players' football skills and knowledge, character, leadership, discipline, and teamwork abilities.

Since the program's inception, the Bears have donated over $160,000 to Illinois high schools in support of their football programs.

This concludes the Bears "Coach of the Week" program for the 2008 season. The nine winners are: Chris Andriano, Montini; B.J. Luke, Danville; Greg Purnell, St. Francis; Bill Mosel, Thornton; Chad Musselman, Villa Grove; Mike Taylor, Springfield; Brian Glashagel, Antioch; Tom Meaney, Bartlett; and Wicinski.
