Halftime highlights
Here are some halftime highlights of Friday night playoff games around the Daily Herald coverage area.
Brett Opitz kicked a 21-yard field goal with 3:21 left in the second quarter to give Fremd an early 3-0 lead over Palatine in Class 8A playoff football at Fremd Friday night.
Fremd's Chris Doloughty intercepted a Palatine pass with 1:40 left in the half to preserve the lead for the Vikings.
Michael Gyetvay rushed 13 times for 64 yards for Fremd in the first half while quarterback Michael Tauchman had 49 rushing yards and 20 passing yards.
Palatine quarterback Matt Rossi was 8-for-15 for 104 yards.
Both teams are 7-2 on the season.
Fremd then took a 10-0 lead with 6:23 left in the third quarter on a 12-yard run by Evan Wright.
Bartlett 3, Niles Notre Dame 0: Dan Karys kicked a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter and Bartlett held a 3-0 lead over No. 16 seed Niles Notre Dame at halftime.
Vernon Hills 7, Grant 3: Barlett is 9-0 and a No. 1 seed in Class 8A.
In Class 6A, Vernon Hills leads Grant 7-3 at halftime. Vernon Hills' Seb Evans scored on a 4-yard run.
Grant's Dan Hourihan kicked a 31-yard field goal for the Bulldogs' points.
St. Charles North at Crystal Lake South: The North Stars and Gators each scored once in the first half and were tied 7-7. Michael Ghanem scored on a 1-yard run for SCN in the Class 7A game, while Derek Mortensen also scored on a 1-yard run for CL South.
Batavia at Huntley: Jordan Neukirch and Brett Kleckner each scored twice as Huntley jumped to a 35-21 lead over Batavia in Class 6A. Neukirch scored on runs of 80 and 11 yards and Kleckner on runs of 31 and 23 yards.
Bia Kabba scored twice for Batavia and Tyler Lindquist also caught a 3-yard TD pass from Jordan Coffy.
Hampshire at Genoa-Kingston: Hampshire fell behind Genoa-Kingston 24-19 at the half in Class 4A. James Goebbert has a 20-yard TD pass from Evan Brenner, Bo Price caught a 34-yarder from Brenner and Joe Moore ran 9 yards for a score for the Whip-Purs, who were ahead 19-14 before two late G-K scores.
