Mathias a friend to education and educators

I am writing to express my support for Rep. Sid Mathias of the 53rd House District. Sid has been an effective legislator in the midst of much political infighting and chaos in Springfield.

As a registered Democrat, I have found it disturbing to read some of the literature that has been put forward by the Democratic Party. Many of the mailings have focused attention on issues that are better suited for a congressional race than one for the state legislature.

Other mailings have contained statements and facts that are misleading at best. As a teacher and active member of the Illinois Education Association, I have always found Sid Mathias willing to take my phone call or meet with a group of members to discuss issues and concerns. He has worked hard to promote legislation that supports education and the employees who work tirelessly on behalf of their students.

I have not always agreed with Rep. Mathias on all issues. However, when I have had concerns, Sid has always been willing to listen to other perspectives and respond to the needs of his constituents through his actions in the state legislature.

It is for that reason that I pledge my support. I want an elected official who is going to listen to issues and cast his/her vote based on the needs of their constituents and is not beholden to the leaders who have financed his/her campaign.
