Mathias has always pushed for children's safety

Recent scare mail pieces sent by candidate Carol Javens against our representative, Sid Mathias, are patently inaccurate and a distortion of facts.

Representative Mathias voted no on HB1727 (an Internet Library Filter Act) along with most area Democrats including Kathy Ryg and Elaine Nekritz. That legislation was also opposed by the Illinois Library Association and the IEA. He voted no along with Ryg and Nekritz because all the stakeholders in Illinois were opposed to the legislation because it was bad legislation!

Javens also blasted Sid Mathias in what can best be described as a slimy and distorted piece of literature for voting to delay the implementation of SB 2111 (a sex offender registration bill). Sid voted for the original legislation and this bill would have delayed the implementation of the original act at the request of professional law enforcement officials in Illinois so that they would have enough time to implement a strong, solid database.

Lisa Madigan and the Democratic sponsor of this bill agreed with Sid's position. Area Democrats Ryg, Nekritz and Hamos also voted with Sid Mathias for SB211 to delay the implementation of this legislation. SB2111 passed the house 80-35 and the Governor vetoed it.

In both cases, Mathias voted either to kill bad legislation or improve legislation for the sake of children. The reality is that Sid Mathias has been a leader in passing legislation to protect our children from child predators.

It is unfortunate that Mike Madigan is so intent in buying Sid Mathias' seat in the General Assembly that facts do not have a place in this campaign. But the question is, can you believe anything in writing that comes from Sid Mathias' opponent? I doubt it.
