Former dean sent to prison for sexual assault

LITCHFIELD -- A former dean of students of a high school in Litchfield has been sentenced to five years in prison for criminal sexual assault.

Montgomery County State's Attorney Chris Matoush said Thursday that Mike Wetzell must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, as well as a parole period after he is released. Wetzell was also ordered to pay fines in excess of $3,200.

The 31-year-old Wetzell was arrested March 27 by police after an investigation determined a 17-year-old female had been at Wetzell's apartment on March 17.

Officers had been asked to check on the welfare of the teenager, and she was seen running from Wetzell's residence by School Superintendent Michael Juenger, who had been tipped a student was there.

Under questioning by police, Wetzell and the girl admitted they had been having sex.
