Vote yes to larger fire board

As a resident of the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, I would like to address the referendum issue that will he on the Nov. 4 ballot. It asks for a change in the number of trustees from three to five.

Currently, the three trustees have the responsibility of overseeing the management of the district, budgeting tax dollars and the future direction of the department.

This three-member system has been in place since the beginning of the volunteer fire department at which time the operating budget was several thousand dollars.

Today's fire district has over 50 full-time employees, operates three staffed fire stations, and has over 15 pieces of fire apparatus with an annual budget of 11 million dollars.

Voting yes will diversify and enhance the decision-making process of the board without raising our taxes.
