Voters unable to see forest for the trees

So much time, coupled with an unbelievable amount of dollars to elect our next president. So often the American voter is unable to see the forest for the trees. The real problem this country has is the cesspool of congressional corruption which appears to permeate all of Washington. They have all been well schooled in the art of deception. They each live in their own little dichotomous world. They all appear to have basically the same priorities.

For decades now, the feast prepared by the lobbyists and special interest groups continues to be enjoyed and devoured by our officials. So much so that barely a crumb has fallen to the ground for their constituency to enjoy. They postulate progressiveness, imply innovativeness, and declare dependability. Their ego has so corrupted them, distracting them from the problems they swore to repair. Perhaps Aesop was correct when he penned, "We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office."

Can this quagmire of corruption be reversed? Not immediately, sorry to say. The minute they sold their souls to the lobbyists the die was cast, as they forsook their commitment to moral values.

Can it be reversed? Only in time. From the youngest to the oldest they must all be voted out or thrown out of office. Some basic new guidelines will have to be established, which this present group would fight tooth and nail against it. Some common sense basic rules could be the initial guidelines and be tweaked later on, such as no lobbyists or special interest groups with their limitless funds would be allowed. Term limits would be mandatory. Line item veto is a must. Pork for the most part would be eliminated. Winter trips to southern warmer climates under the guise of a study would be abolished. I will end with a quote from Thomas Carlyle which would be apropos for all people. "Make yourself an honest man and then you may be sure there is one less rascal in this world."
