USDA owes us with meat labeling

Despite massive criticism for failings in meat inspection that caused sickness and death among Americans due to E. coli contamination, the USDA is incredulously backing away from plans to improve its procedures. Instead, it is considering discredited irradiation of carcasses before processing.

Aside from plans to unleash the dangerous by-products of irradiation, the USDA is also considering using this procedure Without labeling the meat as irradiated! If this occurs, it will be one of the most egregious acts of contempt in our history.

The USDA should force the clean up of meat processing and not depend use irradiation to make up for its lax procedures. The USDA should also issue an apology to the American people for its continued lack of concern for their welfare.
