Reform candidates deserve your vote
Recently, there have been candidates for state and federal office talking about the Cook County 1-percent sales tax and the terrible way in which Todd Stroger and the county board have governed this county. Where were these candidates when the county was passing this tax or continuing to make other bad decisions?
Yes, some who stood up publicly and protested the county government's actions, but many did not. So for this election in November, I encourage the voters who are tired of the way the Cook County government is run and who happen to be supporting candidates that are essentially running an anti-Todd Stroger campaign to get a commitment from these candidates.
Simply state that you would like them to support reform-minded people for Cook County Board in the 2010 election. These candidates, who might win elected office this November, should be front and center on this issue, not hiding in the back of a room or behind some desk. If they cannot publicly make a commitment to you, then chances are it was nothing more than campaign rhetoric and they will not be pursuing reform in the future. Let them know how you feel, only committed reformers deserve your vote this election season.
