The McCain charge that because Senator Obama crossed paths with Bill Ayers on several occasions through common membership on several legitimate boards, etc., and that he has some sinister agenda, is exactly what Sen. Joe McCarthy did in the 1950s. In those days, if you happened to know someone who attended a meeting of a group that was on McCarthy's black list, you were also guilty and you were hounded relentlessly.
