Munson tenaciously supports taxpayers

As an Elgin resident I have been impressed by Rep. Ruth Munson's tenacious support of taxpayers. Even facing a gridlocked legislature that struggles to pass a budget, Rep. Munson has continued to introduce and support legislation that aims to improve the quality of life for her constituents. She has achieved tangible results that have benefited daily life, such as persuading the state to repave the pothole-plagued Route 31 years ahead of schedule.

Her challenger, Keith Farnham, has the luxury of never going on record and voting for anything. He can attack Rep. Munson for "voting against" a litany of items, when in reality, Munson's own commitment to the constitutionally mandated balanced budget forced her and other legislators into a tough situation. They could either vote for these unfunded items or vote against the unbalanced budget containing them. Farnham's pile of campaign postcards is a cheap shot at real issues that he doesn't propose to solve.

Farnham has ideas, but what happens when he has to pay for them? Would he pass unfunded legislation, in violation of the Illinois constitution? Illinois is in a serious fiscal crisis and can't afford to spend money on new programs when they're barely keeping the lights on. Ruth Munson has shown the leadership and tenacity it takes to stand up to the budget crisis and take action to fix, while protecting our interests.
