Amend Constitution; don't start over
The current Illinois Constitution provides for an amendment process, which has worked well during the past 40 years. Why not use the tools we already have in trying to fix problems in our state government? The amendment process is not only less expensive (a convention could cost $80 million or more), but it is also more focused and easier to manage and monitor.
I am for a change without destroying what works. And I believe that the current Illinois Constitution works. It is a well-written document, full of protections for all. We can strengthen it when and where necessary, without jeopardizing the entire document.
