Plano man dies after car hits pole

One man died and another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries around 6:30 a.m. Sunday stemming from a single-vehicle accident near Sugar Grove in Big Rock Township, police said.

Hector Z. Ocon, 24, of Plano, was killed in the crash on Dugan Road, just north of Prairie Road. Gregorio Garcia Jr., 25, also of Plano, was rushed by ambulance to Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. His condition has not yet been released.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt, police said.

The 2001 Ford Explorer had been heading south on Dugan Road when it left the road for unknown reasons, slammed into a utility pole and township road sign, then flipped at least once, police said.

Ocon was ejected from the sport utility vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Kane County Sheriff's Department and an accident reconstruction team continue to investigate the crash and have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
