Three-year prison term for 67-year-old in child sex assault

Sixty-seven-year-old Arthur Brown again will have to look to prison to find the treatment he needs to rid him of the inappropriate sexual compulsion that landed him in Cook County court.

Cook County Judge John Scotillo sentenced Brown Friday to three years, the maximum allowed for a Class 4 felony in Illinois, for violating the statute that prohibits a child sex offender from being in a public park when children under 18 are present.

Palatine police arrested Brown, of the 800 block of Junior Terrace in Chicago, in April after he approached a 10-year-old boy who had been injured in a Little League baseball game. Prosecutors said Brown began touching the boy but stopped when the boy's father intervened. At a bond hearing in August, prosectors detailed the defendant's arrest record, which dates back to 1966 and includes convictions for taking indecent liberties with a child and aggravated sexual abuse.

Brown pleaded guilty to the latest charge Friday following a conference with the judge, prosecutor and defense attorney Paul H. Strecker. Asked if his client hopes to receive treatment for his problems, Strecker said Brown "is desirous of doing so."
