Sleigh Bell Classic to honor Frisk

A long-time boys basketball tradition is being revived to honor the career of Bob Frisk at the Daily Herald.

The "Bob Frisk Sleigh Bell Classic" will feature Buffalo Grove and Palatine on Dec. 6 in their Mid-Suburban League crosover game. It will also be played at Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights in the historic Grace Gymnasium, which was the home to Arlington High School basketball until it closed in 1984.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. with pregame festivities starting at 7 p.m. to honor Frisk, a 1954 Arlington graduate who is retiring in December after 50 years of covering high school sports for the Daily Herald.

In the early 1940s, after losing so often to Palatine, the dad's club at Arlington created the "Sleigh Bells" trophy to increase school interest in a game played at that time on the evening before Thanksgiving.
