Suburban Catholic Conference
Game time: Noon, Saturday.
Last year: Driscoll 13, Montini 7.
Last week: Driscoll 42, Marian Central 35; Montini 33, St. Edward 27.
Outlook: Perfect: Week 9, Driscoll vs. Montini. The host Broncos seek their first SCC title since 2005 by knocking off the defending champion. Driscoll coach Brandon New said the game may be a "battle of the offenses." Driscoll averages 31 points a game, Montini nearly 30. Since Driscoll's 27-7 loss to St. Francis on Sept. 12 the Highlanders have plugged away, quarterback Steven Schwabe completing 63 percent of his passes to four main targets: Austin Baker, Clay Cooper, Joey Calabrese and Nick Campanella, a junior who has scored 15 touchdowns and leads Driscoll with 639 yards rushing. Defensive ends Sean Banahan and Trace Jenkins will try to fence in Tom DiCristina, who has completed 65 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns, 3 interceptions in an all-state season. Also Montini's rushing leader, DiCristina gets Brendan Shannon back at receiver alongside Grant Goebel, Jeff Spokas and Christian Westerkamp. With this much offense the game may come down to defense or the late turnover. As Broncos coach Chris Andriano said, really it "just comes down to a great finish of the regular season."
