Daley gives mocking apology
In a voice dripping with sarcasm, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley apologized for the alleged torture of suspects by a former police lieutenant.
Sixty-year-old Jon Burge was charged earlier this week with lying in a civil rights lawsuit when he said he and detectives never engaged in torture of suspected criminals.
Daley on Thursday said he apologized to everybody for whatever happened to them in city in the past.
Attorney Flint Taylor, who has spent 21 years representing alleged torture victims, expressed outrage over the mayor's remarks. Taylor called Daley's attitude disgraceful.
Daley spokeswoman Jacquelyn Heard later pointed out Daley has on several occasions expressed regret for Burge's actions.
