Three arrested in alleged drug deal in Glen Ellyn
An apparent drug deal gone bad resulted in the arrest of three Glen Ellyn men, police said Wednesday.
Police say they received a phone call earlier this week about an armed robbery at Lake Ellyn. The victim said he was sitting in his car when someone got in, pointed a gun at his leg and stole his personal belongings.
The robber then got into a car driven by another man and fled, the victim said.
Police tracked down the car at A&A Apartments at Roosevelt Road and Main Street, and learned the origin of the meeting was for the sale of a small amount of marijuana, police said.
"It turns out the victim was actually there to sell drugs," Deputy Chief Bill Holmer said. "We recovered part of the stolen property at the apartment."
The Glen Ellyn juvenile who allegedly stole the property was charged with robbery Monday and taken to the DuPage County youth home.
The investigation regarding the victim, also a Glen Ellyn juvenile, is pending.
Brett Johnson, 22, of an unincorporated area near Glen Ellyn, who was driving the vehicle, and passenger Darrell Douglas, 17, of Glen Ellyn, both were taken to DuPage County jail Tuesday after being charged with robbery and possession of stolen property.
Holmer said the incident occurred in a public park.
"It's a quiet, residential neighborhood, which is obviously of great concern for us," he said. "We're pleased we can bring this to a conclusion."
"I think the officers involved acted quickly and certainly their knowledge of some of these individuals came into play," Holmer said. "They were able to put together quickly where this car might be, and I thought their reaction was excellent."
