Four-car crash near Grayslake

A four-car chain-reaction accident at Alleghany and Petersen roads outside of Grayslake caused no serious injures, but snarled traffic for about an hour, police said Wednesday.

Barbara Jensen of Richmond was heading east on Petersen Road in her Infiniti when she rear-ended a Nissan Altima driven by a McHenry man that was stopped at a stoplight at about 6:44 a.m. The Altima then rear-ended a third vehicle, which struck the rear of a fourth vehicle, said Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Thompson.

Drivers in three of the vehicles involved in the accident were not injured, Thompson said, while Jensen initially complained of injuries when approached by police officers. However, upon arrival of medical units, she refused to be transported to a nearby hospital and signed a release at the scene.

Thompson said her air bag was deployed in the accident.

Jensen was cited for failure to yield to avoid an accident, Thompson said.

The accident was cleaned up in about 45 minutes, Thompson said, but traffic was rerouted around the cars on the two-lane highway until the scene was cleared.
