Briefs: Biz author to speak in Geneva
Author and business authority Richard C. Longworth will speak at 10 a.m. Friday at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St. The free program is sponsored by The Center for Business Innovation and Development and the Geneva Learners. Longworth is the author of "Caught in the Middle: America's Heartland in the Age of Globalism." Longworth is a senior fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at DePaul University. He is also an adjunct faculty member in International Relations at Northwestern University, is a regular lecturer at Columbia University and is a mentor at the Harris School at the University of Chicago.
Eat ice cream for a cause
The Geneva Middle School South PTO is partnering with Colonial Café in St. Charles for the first-ever Colonial Cares Night to benefit the school. The fundraiser is scheduled from 4:30 to 10 p.m. today. Up to 20 percent of the night's proceeds will benefit Geneva Middle School South. The offer is good for dinner, dessert, or carryout.
Church rummage sale
The St. Charles Congregational United Church of Christ will hold its Fall Rummage and Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Friday at 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd. Items for sale include clothing, furniture, household goods, books, toys and a Quality Corner. Items on Friday are $5 a bag and $7 in Quality Corner. Large items will be half price. Proceeds from the Bake Sale will be sent to Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Miss., for ongoing hurricane relief. Rock for Mooseheart
The first Rock 'n' Roll RendezVu musical event, to benefit Mooseheart Child City and School and Moose Charities, is at 7 p.m. Saturday at RendezVu Restaurant, 1 E. Wilson St., Batavia.
