Boys cross country Class 3A regionals

Boys cross country Class 3A regionals

Hoffman Estates

Where: Busse Woods

When: Saturday at 11 a.m.

Who to watch: With four of the top five runners from last Saturday's Mid-Suburban League meet, expect one of the fastest regionals in the state. Schaumburg's Pat Lesiewicz and Palatine's Chano Bernardo went 1-2 at conference, and the juniors will likely battle for first again. Also watch for these top-10 finishers from conference: Fremd junior Aaron Ferst (4th), Palatine junior Alec Bollman (5th), and Conant senior Tyler Fuchs (8th). Look no farther than Palatine in the team race as it had five in the top 15 to win its sixth straight MSL championship.

Rolling Meadows

Where: Salk Park

When: Saturday at 11 a.m.

Who to watch: Prospect took second at conference, and has its sights set on state after taking sixth at last year's Palatine sectional. Knights senior Chris Hayek took third at conference, and was joined on the all-MSL team by Albert Ciolek (9th), Chris Spudic (20th) and Vincent Tagare (22nd). Erik Stanton took sixth and junior Matt Cwiok was 16th to pace Hersey, while juniors Photis Karkalis (7th) and Angelos Karkalis (21st) lead a Rolling Meadows squad targeting its first sectional appearance in 38 years. Maine West won the Central Suburban North with six runners in the top 13, including runner-up Martin Chavez and Kevin Schaefer (third). Wheeling senior Eric Rodriguez finished 11th in the MSL and looks to advance past this regional for the second consecutive season.

Lake Forest

Where: West Campus

When: Saturday at 3 p.m.

Who to watch: Buffalo Grove is aiming for next Saturday's Schaumburg sectional after taking sixth at the Meadows regional last season. Keep an eye on BG freshman Jereme Atchinson, who took 14th at conference as the Bison finished ninth.
