Briefs: Second incident at Elgin bank

Elgin authorities responded Tuesday to the second hazardous materials incident in two days at the Chase Bank building at 2500 Westfield Drive. Employees reported receiving a letter containing a white powdery substance, similar to a package that resulted in more than a dozen departments converging on the building Monday afternoon, said Anne Dinges, spokeswoman for the Elgin Police Department. In both incidents, the substance was determined to be harmless, Dinges said. The credit processing office was one of about a dozen Chase Bank branches that reportedly received threatening letters and powder on Monday.
