Obama election night in Grant Park

Barack Obama will spend election night outdoors.

The Illinois Democrat's campaign announced Tuesday that their election night event will be held in Chicago's Grant Park on Hutchinson Field.

The field is on the south end of the park often referred to as Chicago's "front yard."

That Obama would hold his election night party outside is fitting. He announced his bid for the White House at an event outside the Old State Capitol in Springfield on a frigid day in February 2007.

The park is home to the summer music fest Lollapalooza and was the site of a mass hosted by Pope John Paul II in 1979.
