No agreement in Kaneland Dist. 302 issues

Kaneland District 302 and Kaneland Teachers Association failed to reach an agreement again Monday night, after spending five hours at a bargaining table with a federal mediator.

Both parties, however, agreed to keep mediating. The two sides will meet again Thursday evening.

The press release issued by the district said both sides remain hopeful a resolution can be obtained.

The two sides have been meeting on and off recently to try and get the latest teachers contract approved.

A negotiating session on Saturday lasted 11 hours and also involved a federal mediator.

Both groups say the stalemate centers on salaries and retirement benefits.

According to the District 302 Web site, the difference between the financial impact of proposals from both sides going into mediation was about $1 million.

The 360-member union voted 267-11 to file a 10-day intent to strike on Oct. 6, but have bargaining prior to the last contract expiring in June.
