Hundreds line up for flood aid
Hundreds of suburban Chicago residents are taking advantage of assistance offered by the state after last month's flooding.
Some started lining up at 3 a.m. Monday at Illinois Department of Human Services offices.
Seven northern Illinois counties were declared federal disaster area after heavy rains in September. The counties are Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, LaSalle and Will.
State and federal agencies are offering disaster unemployment assistance and disaster food stamp programs.
Money is being awarded based on the number of people in each household.
Wendy Weather is a mother of two from Calumet City. Her home had about two feet of water in it.
She received nearly $500 this morning. She says it really makes a different.
