Briefs: Healthy Living fair
The Batavia High School Health Living Expo opens to the public from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the school, 1200 W. Wilson St., with keynote speaker Danielle Hollar of the Agatston Research Foundation. There will be exhibits on health care, exercise, nutrition and stress management. Admission is free. Students will participate in the expo during the school day. Hollar is research director at Agatston, which has a mission of improving the nation's heart health. She is the principal investigator of the Healthier Options for Public School children study. Batavia public schools are using HOPS curriculum and programs this year.
Relationship assistance
Betty Barsley-Marra, University of Illinois Extension Educator, Family Life will facilitate a six-week interactive workshop to help couples strengthen their relationship and improve communications. The workshop will be held Tuesdays beginning tonight through Nov. 25. The sessions will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. John Neumann Church in St. Charles. Learn about prairies
The University of Illinois will hosta telenet presentation on "Introduction to Prairies at 1:30 p.m. today. Join Ken Robertson, prairie expert with the Illinois Natural History Survey and author of the Tallgrass Prairie in Illinois Web site as he uses multiple images to present a synopsis of the ecology, history, and diversity of prairies along with prairie establishment and management ideas. Choral music concert
Rosary High School will present "Love, Grace, Beauty & Peace," a free concert of sacred choral music, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the McEnroe Auditorium at the school, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive, Aurora. The concert will feature spirituals, art songs and other selections by contemporary and classic composers.
Free parenting class
There is still time to register for a series of free workshops aimed at giving guidance to parents in dealing with the culture students are exposed to. The program, "Parent-to-Parent/Lessons Learned" is from noon to 2:30 p.m. today, Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and 11. Another class is from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 19 and Dec. 3, 10 and 17. All classes will be held in the lower-level conference room at the Geneva 304 District Administrative Offices, 227 N. Grengs Lane work planned
The demolition and restoration of Grengs Lane near the Fabyan Elementary School construction site will begin today. The work will be isolated to 300 feet of new curb work, pavement patching, and seeding. When paving begins, the bike path will also be paved. The work should take up to two weeks. Waubonsee parents night
Waubonsee Community College is hosting its first parents night from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Event Room of the Academic and Professional Center on the college's Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Parents of current high school students are invited to attend this free event that will feature speakers, campus tours, refreshments and a raffle for a $100 gift card.
