Let's fight to save the Choo Choo

I am an avid supporter and longtime customer of the Choo Choo in Des Plaines. Needless to say, I'm very upset with the recent inquiries and bullying of the owner, Jean, to remove the Choo Choo to make way for a new police station.

I've read the papers and the editorials and have had lengthy conversations with the owner about what has been going on. Imagine my shock when I heard that the Mayor of our fair city actually asked her to stop the e-mails coming to OUR aldermen through the www.savethechoochoo.com Web site as the poor Aldermen were getting inundated with messages. Isn't that what they tell us to do when they want us to support something they believe in? How many times have we been told to write a letter to our state representative or our alderman

to tell them how we feel about important issues?

It's nice to know that the Mayor and the rest of the City do not feel we should have a say in what happens to our city and the treasures it holds.

I will continue to send those e-mails and I will continue to encourage anyone else that loves this wonderful place to do the same. If we don't let our voices be heard then we can't complain when our elected officials make decisions we don't like. Should the Choo Choo lose this battle, I'll be the first one tied to the door in front of the wrecking ball.
