Choral Showcase fall show Monday

Buffalo Grove High School's Fall Choral showcase will be presented 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in the school's Miller Theater, 1100 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove. The choirs to be featured are the Freshman Choir, Treble Choir, Concert Choir and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, "By Popular Demand."

NWC offers flu shots

Northwest Community Hospital is hosting three community flu shot clinics and will have flu vaccines available at its three treatment centers in Buffalo Grove, Lake Zurich and Schaumburg.

The flu shot clinics will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights; 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Buffalo Grove village hall, 50 Raupp Blvd.; and Friday, Nov. 4 (appointment only) at the Wheeling Township Community Center, 1616 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Appointments can be made starting Monday, Oct. 20, by calling (847) 259-7730.

Flu shots are currently available without an appointment at the NCH treatment centers for adults and children ages 9 and older. Children 6 months to 9 years require an appointment. To schedule an appointment at a treatment center, call (847) 618-3700.

Concert honors military service

The Arlington Heights Community Concert Band will present "In Honor and Remembrance" at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights.

Under the direction of Adam La Spata, the performance honors the service of military personnel past and present, and remembers the heritage of the modern wind band in the military band tradition.

Admission to the concert is made available to the public free through the sponsorship of Harris Bank. Reserve tickets at (847) 718-7702.

Harper collects books for kids

The Harper College Library is on the hunt for children's books as part of its 15th annual Kids Read Book Drive. The drive, which runs through the end of October, aims to collect 1,500 new or gently used books with an eye on increasing children's literacy. Donations will go to Township High School District 214's Community Education program and Elk Grove Township. Both organization distribute the books to low-income children, women's programs and families participating in English courses.

Books can be dropped off in Harper's Library on the main floor of Building F, or in boxes across campus at 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine.
