Woman robbed in Schaumburg

A woman was robbed of her purse inside a building on the 1100 block of East Algonquin Road in Schaumburg around 4:30 p.m. Oct. 14, police said. The woman told police the man, in his 30s, grabbed her purse and then ran down a hallway. She chased after him, but when he reached the end of the hallway, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at her, reports said. The man then left the building through an exit door. The woman estimated her purse and its contents to be worth $121.

Clean audit for Harper

Independent auditing firm KPMG has given Harper College a "clean" audit opinion, the highest rating an institution can receive from a financial audit. Harper's net assets for the 2007-08 fiscal year were $180.1 million, a nearly 9 percent increase from the previous year. The firm cited Harper's "increased enrollment, improved operational efficiencies and prudent spending." It's the 10th straight year Harper received a "clean" rating.

Palatine breast cancer forum

The Palatine Board of Health will offer a free breast cancer forum, "Hope Starts With You!" from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Palatine Village Hall, 200 E. Wood St. Representatives from the American Cancer Society, Wellness Place, Woman Care and Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council will discuss breast cancer prevention, awareness, local resources and Medicare Parts B and D. 'Parenting with love, logic'

Maine East High School social worker Joan Lampert will discuss "Parenting Through Love and Logic," from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard, Park Ridge.
