The League of Women Voters of the Carpentersville Dundee Area will hold a candidates forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Dundee Township Park District Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville. Candidates from several contested races will present an opening statement and answer questions from the audience.

McHenry County extends seal contest

McHenry County is extending its deadline to Nov. 5 for citizens to submit a design to be used as the new official county seal. The new seal design will be used on all county business, including signage and correspondence. It should be unique to the county and incorporate its history and values. The contest, which began July 1, is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to apply. State conducts college outreach in Polish

High school students whose parents speak Polish are the target of a new outreach program by the state. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission will conduct a training session - entirely in Polish - for high school guidance counselors and Polish-American community groups to help them organize financial aid workshops. The free training session, called "How to Conduct a Financial Aid Presentation- in Polish," will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 23 at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Room 1614, Des Plaines.
