Parade entries sought
Naperville-based Little Friends Inc. is seeking entries for its annual Friends of Little Friends Electric Parade that will be part of the city's Hometown Holidays celebration on Nov. 28. The application deadline is Oct. 24. The holiday event features lighted and musical floats along with Santa's arrival, when he flips the switch on more than 300,000 holiday lights. This year's parade steps off at 4:30 p.m. from Centennial Beach on Jackson Avenue. Entry fees are $50 for local for-profit companies; area nonprofit agencies can participate for free. A number of sponsorship opportunities are available. Applications are available on the Little Friends Web site at www.littlefriendsinc.org.
ADOPT hires first director
Naperville-based Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment has hired its first director for the nonprofit group that promotes animal welfare and finding homes for pets. Richard Glessner comes to ADOPT with more than 10 years of shelter management experience, most recently in Rock Island where he opened a shelter merging four separate municipal animal control groups into one entity. He also served as executive director at a large "no-kill" shelter and has served on numerous boards, including the Illinois Animal Welfare Federation.
Jazz show at NCC
North Central College will present its sixth annual Jazz Faculty Concert Series, featuring the eight members of its Jazz Studies Program, in a series of concerts that begin Oct. 22 and run through April 15, 2009. The opening concert is at 7:30 p.m. in the new Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville, and features "An Evening with Jazz Saxophonist Mitch Paliga" with Frank Caruso, Larry Kohut and Jack Mouse.
