Naperville police SUV hits pedestrians
A fully marked Naperville Police Department sport utility vehicle on Sunday struck two adult pedestrians at Main Street and Aurora Avenue, officials said.
The pair were being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at Edward Hospital, according to a news release.
The nature of their injuries was not immediately known.
The accident occurred at 4:12 p.m. when the police department's Chevy Tahoe that was heading south on Main Street, turned left onto eastbound Aurora Avenue, striking the pair.
The vehicle had been responding to an emergency call, the release said.
Aurora Avenue was closed for several hours between Webster and Washington streets, the release said.
Cmdr. Dave Hoffman, a police spokesman, said the department has not determined the fate of the officer behind the wheel due to the traffic unit's ongoing probe into the accident.
Witnesses are asked to call the traffic unit at (630) 420-6197.
