Boy in critical condition after collision in Mundelein
A 14-year-old Buffalo Grove boy who was struck by an SUV Saturday in Mundelein is still hospitalized at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, authorities said today.
"The young man is still in the hospital," said Mundelein police Sgt. Gary Duhamel. "We do hope for a speedy recovery for him. He is still in critical condition."
No tickets have been issued, he said, since the matter is still under investigation. The investigation is being handled by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, which was called to the scene Saturday.
The accident occurred on Route 176 near Midlothian Road before noon.
The boy was brought to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville but was later flown to the hospital in Park Ridge.
Details on the crash are still sketchy, although a Mundelein fire official said it appears the teenager had started to cross the road but turned back. He was not crossing at a traffic light. The speed limit is 45 mph.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
