Bartlett 3rd at UEC meet

It was just another day at the office for Upstate Eight Conference champion Lindsay Flanagan of Lake Park, who finessed her way through the twists and turns of the 3 mile course at Sunrise Park to cross the finish line at 17:11 for a new meet record.

St. Charles East won the team championship with 42 points. With 57 points, Neuqua Valley took second place honors, followed by meet host, Bartlett (73).

It was Alyssa Schneider that ensured Bartlett's place among the top three, finishing third individually at 18:01, followed by teammates Sam Salinas (18:12) and Kristen Schneider (18:15).

"I know that I want to stay in the top three," said Schneider. "The better the competition, the more I push myself."

Hawks coach Beth Emody was more than happy to see her girls fly into third place in the Upstate Eight.

"Time-wise, we were dead on today," said Emody. "I was pleased with all of our girls."

Jordan Tuin took 13th at 19:08 to lead South Elgin (190 points). Streamwood finished sixth with 158 points behind Mercedes Mancha (19:12) with Larkin/Elgin (191) taking eighth overall led by Kelly Patchett (19:42).

FVC Meet: Kristina Aubert was heavily favored to win the Fox Valley Conference individual cross country championship the last two seasons but came up short.

The third time proved to be a charm for the talented junior.

Aubert, who has fully recovered from an Achilles injury sustained 3 weeks ago, claimed the FVC title with a 3-mile clocking of 18:42 Saturday at Woodstock's Emricson Park. Woodstock's Elise Beattie was the runner-up with a time of 18:47.

"People were doubting me this year," said Aubert. "I was determined to win the championship this year. It is an awesome feeling."

South coach Nikki Lydon felt confident Aubert would claim the elusive title.

"We ran the course Friday for practice and Kristina was really focused," said Lydon. "We did some speed work and some hill work and she was prepared for today. I knew she would run a great race today ."

Woodstock led by Beattie's runner-up finish claimed the conference Championship with 60 points.

Both Crystal Lake Central and Huntley scored 79 points, but the Red Raiders gained second place with a better sixth runner than the Tigers.

Huntley's sixth runner, Cecilia Tsevas, was 39th while Central's sixth runner Ellen Fairfield placed 49th.

Dundee-Crown, with 3 runners in the Top 15, placed fourth. The Chargers' top runner was Kelsey Seiler (8th).

Cary-Grove's Molly MacInnes placed 10th to help lead the Trojans to a fifth-place finish with a score of 99 points.

Jacobs, with Jennifer Tomany finishing 47th, was ninth with a score of 278.

Big Northern Meet: Burlington Central finished second with 56 points as Winnebago won the BNC meet at Hampshire with 50 points. BC's Maggie Gannon was fourth in 18:21.3 and Markelle Turk sixth in 18:55.7. Hampshire took seventh place but got an excellent fifth-place showing from Holly Plichta in a time of 18:24.3. Rockford Lutheran's Sarah Kortze won the race in 18:03.1.
