Antioch escapes with victory over NC, Hill
Two of Lake County's top running backs met and neither disappointed the crowd.
But it was Antioch's Vinnie Holm's 43-yard field goal with 4:33 left in the fourth quarter that clinched a 44-34 victory over host North Chicago in a North Suburban Prairie Division football game Friday night.
"I was really nervous when I kicked it, as it was all on me," said Holm, who also kicked 5 PATs."I have been practicing a lot on my kicks and it paid off."
Antioch (8-0, 5-0) remained undefeated and will play Lakes in its regular-season finale next Friday.
"We know that we need to play our best game of the season because Lakes is going to be looking to play their best game of the season," Antioch coach Brain Glashagel said. "This is the final home game for some of North Chicago's players, so we knew they were going to play their best game. They're very fast and are very good athletes. They take everyone to the wire. This game was a relief because we wanted to win and they gave us a battle."
After being down 28-12 at halftime, North Chicago outscored the Sequoits 16-13 in the third quarter. Running back Jimon Hill scored on an 80-yard sweep along the right sideline to bring the Warhawks within 41-34 with less than four minutes left in the fourth quarter. Sequoits running backs Cameron White and Steve Lorenzini supplied the offense by combining for 286 yards.
"Our line played a great game for us tonight," White said. "North Chicago played a great game. They kept coming at us and just didn't stop."
White rushed for 192 yards and scored 3 touchdowns, while Lorenzini rushed for 94 yards and scored once.
Hill had the game of his high school career by rushing for 225 yards and 3 TDs on 22 carries.
"This season we hadn't played well - a lot of miscues," North Chicago coach Darryl King said. "We wanted to come out tonight and just give them a ballgame."
