Shirt flap non-issue in real world

From what I understand, there are some of the faculty at U of I who are upset that they cannot wear a T-shirt or a baseball cap supporting one of the presidential candidates. When I hear such academic arrogance I just shake my head. In what other profession would you wear a T-shirt promoting anything?

I think when you're at work you want to focus on your work. But, if your work is an environment where your "subordinates" are students and you are the main attraction, I guess you really believe that your opinion should matter to all those less knowledgeable than you. Wear a T-shirt supporting anything to an office in another profession and engage in a conversation with someone who is up-to-speed on the issue and who doesn't think you are a god, then see how much work gets done and how happy your boss is.

Oh, I forgot, profs have that tenure-thing.
