We can't afford to be a sanctuary state

The Daily Herald reported that the state of Illinois spends $3.5 billion in taxes per year to support various illegal alien programs.

Yet, we now hear at the state level of a severe budget crisis?

We also hear that Mayor Daley is considering the layoff of firemen and police to meet a budget shortfall? And the mayor proudly announces that Chicago is a sanctuary city.

Perhaps it's time our elected officials got their priorities straight.

Illinois can't afford to be a sanctuary state and Chicago can't afford to be a sanctuary city.

Yes, I know, we are a nation of immigrants - legal immigrants.

Illegal aliens should not be draining our tax dollars at the expense of laying off police and firemen or any other citizen for that matter.

What's wrong with this picture?
