Judaism program at Bartlett library

The Bartlett Public Library District celebrates Character Counts! Week Sunday, Oct. 19-Saturday, Oct. 25. The celebration begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at 800 S. Bartlett Road, with Spiritual Literacy: Judaism program. Rabbi Jonathan Israel Kohn will present,"Things You May Know That Are Not So." that dispels any myths people may have about Judaism.

Rabbi Kohn serves at Congregation Kneseth Israel in Elgin and has worked with the communities of Elgin and Bartlett to promote respect and understanding of the tenets of the Jewish faith. Registration is required for this free program. Call the Adult and Teen Services desk at (630) 837-2855. Kosher refreshments will be served.

Barrington Choral Sampler on Sunday

The Barrington High School choirs will perform in this year's Choral Sampler at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, in the school's Richard C. Johnson Auditorium, 616 W. Main St. The event will feature all of the school's choral groups and ensembles. Refreshments will follow the concert. There is a suggested donation of $3 for adults and $2 for students, children and senior citizens. Call (847) 842-3214.

Alumnus opens ECC visiting chef series

Elgin Community College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute of Elgin alumnus Leon Trevino is the opening guest chef of the 2008-2009 Distinguished Visiting Chef Series on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

As part of the event, Trevino, executive chef of Sage Bistro in St. Charles, spends the day lecturing and working with culinary students to prepare a dinner that is served that evening in Spartan Terrace Restaurant, located in the Culinary Arts Center on the ECC Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive Elgin. A 6:30 p.m. wine and hors d'oeuvres reception precedes dinner at 7 p.m.

Reservations are $60 per person and available by calling the ECC Ticket Office at (847) 622-0300. Reservation deadline is 5 p.m. today, Oct. 17.
