Man charged with taking cop's gun

A 25-year-old Carpentersville man was arrested at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday on charges he took a police officer's gun during a domestic battery call.

George R. Jones of 1 Middlesex Drive, Apt. 16, was charged with disarming a police officer, aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest, police said.

Carpentersville police said they had been at the same apartment earlier in the day where Jones had been arrested on a charge of domestic battery.

He posted bond on the charge and was released from jail on the condition that he not return to the apartment until the case was resolved.

However, Jones did return to the apartment and was beating the same person again, police said.

When police arrived the second time, he would not come outside the apartment and would not allow the police to talk to the victim who was inside, police said.

Jones then opened the door slightly, propped himself against it and grabbed the gun of the officer who was standing next to the door, police said. He was trying to remove the gun from the officer's holster when another police officer fired his Taser at Jones.

He was still holding the gun when he fell to the floor and was arrested, police said.

Jones was unable to post a $10,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail Thursday morning.

He is scheduled to appear again in court on Oct. 24 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
